Evaluation

In the thriller project, my group have made an opening sequence about child abduction. We have 3 characters in the opening sequence; mother (Cassie), child and stalker (Abu Bakar). In our opening sequence, we are focusing on 2 parts, which is the part of the stalker and the part the child and the mum. To make our product as relative and realistic as possible, it had to go through many editing, camera shots, adding and featuring with the help of the Mac OS X. In the opening sequence we have two a mixture of sounds. Like when the camera is on the stalker, we have non-diegetic sounds. But when it comes to the mother and child we have normal diegetic sounds of like when the child is playing and when the mother is laughing even when there is a small concentrated amount of non-diegetic sounds. You have this in many opening sequences of real life thriller films. This method has a curious effect on the audience, these simple edits are what makes the audience want to watch the rest of the film and catches their interest. Editing credits is also another convention, which is used in many films and there is also an impact of relativity to real media. It can give many opening sequences an effect depending on where and what part of the opening sequence you display it. This can be simply created with the help of the Live Type. In our media product where we hide the identity of the stalker, this has another affect of questioning the audience and gets them curious as well. The mother in our media product is very young, this can challenge many media sources of stereotyping young mothers. I believe all these points I have mentioned is what makes a real media product. Using the simple dramas that happen in reality is what you can use or manipulate to produce your own real media.

As I said before, the mother in the opening sequence looks quiet young and reality she is just the elder sister of the little child. But the audience will believe that she is teenager who somehow became a mother at an early age. These thoughts can lead to stereotyping teenagers in the urban area that give birth in an early age. You wont have these kind of situations or drama happening in on the country site. Another stereotypical moment is the blacked out stalker. Many stalkers in real life dress dark close or camouflage to fade away in their surroundings and they dress like this, because it gives them an advantage to make a quick escape and on top they where gloves obviously to leave no fingerprints. Stalkers can make scene look very mysterious which is what many audience get interested and curious in. Again as every stalker, we have a male stalker. It would be very unusual if the stalker is a female.

If we made a film out of our opening sequence, it wouldn’t be really and internationally distributed film. The reason for this is simply because our film just focuses on common problems that occur in the urban world. If anything, it would be based in the UK. It wouldn’t really catch the interest of the big 6 multi million distributors such ‘universal pics’. It would be a reasonable film to release a little preview on the internet like YouTube or MySpace. This can be useful for promotion or even research before starting a proper film, which would hit box offices. After wesee a good success in the cinemas, it would not be a bad idea to record it on DVD’s.
A relevant audience for this kind of film would be teenagers living in the urban areas and also middle-aged adults, single parents, mum dad etc. All people in the middle class section can afford a little ticket to the cinema. Why not even people such as a couple who are on a date on a Friday or Saturday night out in central London and walk past the cinema and see this big billboard saying ‘ Happily Ever After’. When it comes to gender, it does make a different like for the female section might be more interested a film involving and starring a mother and the relationship between her and her son. Do not forget that the film ends with the shocked face of the child. Let us just say for example a student named Mary studying her A-levels and has a part time job in Oxford Street at H&M and it is a Friday the day she is paid and goes out with her friends from college. Plus the usual thing they do on a Friday is go to the cinemas Hollywood, CineWorld , or the VUE you name it. They are going to want to watch one of the latest films released and you have the big billboard poser saying ‘Happily Ever After’.

The most suitable promotion for this film is probably billboards, posters, internet etc. The genre of the film could be popular at that moment in the market and could be filling gaps. Another way could be handing out leaflets to aware people on the streets like London. If the film did catch the eyes and attention of big companies and organisations, then it would be more effective to get star actress to lead the mother figure. A good star such as Keira Knightly would be perfect because of her British urban accent and middle aged motherly figured body. She also looks vey interesting when she is in fear, which is one of her strongest features, especially when she pulls that sexy emotional face. This can probably complete the films requirements.

Making this opening sequence has been a great educable experience and got me to learn about the film producing industry. First, I thought it would take months to make the opening sequence because usually a normal can take years to complete. Another thing that was very great was all those technologies we got to use. Such as the camera we use to film and all its different features and methods of recording. The second film was taking the clips back to rooms where all Apple Macs were, which was where we got to use the LiveType and SoundTrack to edit, cut, give special affect and credits to each clip. And at the end where we composite all the films, where the final bit was added was what made the whole opening sequence look very professional and like a real film. Obviously, we also had to use the internet for blogging keeping the audience up to date with everyday’s process and struggles. Blogging isn’t really something for because it involves relating media to journalism which are two different worlds to me. The basic result was that to make a great film or any film you will need teamwork, great communication and a force of commitment, which keeps a group together, even after arguments. Everyone has a role to stick to in a group and if you don’t you will let down the whole group, which can end up fatale. The best thing to do was to show dedication and the willing to learn and even make mistakes and pick up from them mistakes. You should also make every day, hour, minute, second, step as educable as possible. This is all what makes a great film and should go for every other subject. Know that technology is the main essence of making as relative as possible. I do not think without the Apple Mac it would have been possible to create the opening film.
